Ween : Live in Toronto

Een van mijn favoriete bands Ween heeft zijn fans weer eens verwend door een legendarisch concert dat ze in 1996 gaven naar aanleiding van het album 12 country greats met een aantal nashville-sessiemuzikanten (de zogenaamde Shit Creek boys), opnieuw uit te brengen.
Dit concert is nu verkrijgbaar (de eerste gelimiteerde uitgave op hun eigen chocodog-label was 10 jaar terug in no-time uitverkocht) op wit dubbel-vinyl voor de Europese markt via Schnitzel records (!) en de mijne is onderweg.

Overigens zitten ze in de studio, volgens hunzelf een "200 year shitty old stone farmhouse on a lot of land in Bucks County, PA, with a leaky roof and a rodent/insect infestation", voor de opnames van hun nieuwe album.
Alle Ween-nieuws is goed nieuws, denk ik dan maar.

Van wieg tot graf

Muizen op Mars

Als muzikant mag Mike Patton dan wat mij betreft zijn top gehad hebben, alhoewel hij een paar jaar terug nog het magistrale project 'Romances' samen met de Noorse soundtrackspecialist Kaada heeft afgeleverd, als labelbaas van het Ipecac-label heeft ie toch een neusje ontwikkeld voor nieuw en bestaand talent.
De komende 3 releases op dit label zijn achtereenvolgens de nieuwe Mouse on Mars 'Varcharz', Isis' 'In the Absence of Truth' en last but not least 'A Senile Animal' van de Melvins. De eerste plaat van de Melvins sinds 2002's Hostile Ambient Takeover, waarop geen collaborateurs meespelen.

De plaat van Isis klonk na een aantal luisterbeurten al fantastisch, zojuist de luistertrip van 'Varcharz' ondergaan en nu rift de nieuwe melvins ook al lekker door mijn installatie (groeibriljante?).

De Mouse on Mars-plaat durf ik met gemak al uit te roepen tot een einde-jaarslijstjes-album. Ze vernieuwen hun eigen gigantische electronica-oeuvre door er op een ge(s)laagde manier postrock-elementen aan toe te voegen. Met dit experimentele harde album willen ze een beuk uitdelen aan de electronica van tegenwoordig waarin de zoetige deuntjes de boventoon gaan voeren en leggen ze de basis voor een nieuw avontuur in hun eigen reis.

Veel interessants erbij dus en iets breder geprogrammeerd (nieuwe tv-seizoen is grote inspiratie-bron voor me, ahum!) dan alleen de muziek.
