Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - "The Seedling"

Binnenkort komen er paar 'highly anticipated' in huize maritzstraat-albums uit.
De eerste is de nieuwe Bonnie Prince Billy 'Then the Letting go" en vervolgens nog de nieuwe Magnolia Electric co. "Fading Trails" en een solo-album van Magnolia zanger Jason Molina genaamd "Let me out Let me out Let me out".

De Bonnie-plaat is al gelekt en wat ik er van gehoord heb klonk dit toch weer als vanouds na zijn minder geslaagde reworks van oude nummers op laatste album "Summer in the SouthEast".
Van de nieuwe Jason Molina heb ik een enkel nummer gehoord en die klonk ook niet verkeerd.
Allemaal herfstplaten waar ik nu stiekem alvast s'nachts als de temperatuur beetje gedaald is, aan kan wennen.

Van de gebaande paden...(To Hell with everyone)

Momenteel heb ik een kleine aanval van verwijdering van de eenheidsworst en de lekkere chaotische brei van de breakcore en industrial opgezocht (tussen alle vlagen van Dylan, Cash, Smog, Lanegan en co door) .

De toonaangevende labels op dit vlak zijn mijns inziens Hymen, Ad Noiseam en Ant-Zen .
Mooie anecdote van Charles Peirce, ookwel End, beschrijft de attitude binnen dit genre :

“it was about 7-8 years ago now when i was living in rhode island and we went to some bar to see a rockabilly band or something and everybody had cleared out because the fire alarm was going off – this high-pitched ringing - but the band just kept playing on. and it was really amazing and just had that entire end of the world feel. a full rockabilly act just playing their hearts out and this crazy high-end screeching behind them. i was pretty sold on that as a musical style at that moment.”

Het beste wapenfeit van End is The sounds of disaster (vinyl op Hymen, cd op Ipecac, jaja, Patton knows!)

Een paar recente releases die me kunnen bekoren :
Larvae - Dead weight ( Ad Noiseam) meest toegankelijke, bijna triphop.
Enduser - Form without function (Hymen) frontale aanval van de drums
Somatic Responses - Giazuar (Hymen) meer industrial

Een aantal van de oude industrial-triphop-klassiekers in het genre en zeker de moeite waard zijn :
Converter - Exit Ritual
Scorn - Gyral
Gridlock - formless
Dryft - Cell
Somatic responses - Augmented lines

RIP Syd Barret (ook wel Roger Keith Barrett)

Afgelopen vrijdag 7 juli is medeoprichter van Pink Floyd Syd Barrett op 60-jarige leeftijd in alle stilte overleden.
Na het Pink Floyd-album 'The Pipers at the Gate of Dawn' werd hij door overmatig LSD-gebruik uit de band gezet en kwam later met 2 solo-cd's genaamd 'The Madclap Laughs' en 'Barret' nog in het daglicht.

De overgebleven leden schreven in 1975 op het album 'Wish you were there' over en voor hem het onvergetelijke Shine on you crazy diamond :

Nobody knows where you are, how near or how far.

Pile on many more layers and I'll be joining you there.

Alleen al voor disc 2 met de 42-minuten durende hidden track = magistraal nummer !!!

Deze ex-albums van de maand hebben ondanks dat ze stuk voor stuk erg goed zijn, de laatste tijd minder mijn luisterend oor bereikt:
Alvarius B - Blood Operatives of the Barium Sunset (januari),
Biosphere - Dropsonde (maart),
Destroyer - Destroyer's rubies (april).

Iemand nog toevoegingen, wat heb ik gemist of verkeerd ingeschat?
